Mrs. Hunter Marie Bradshaw Stokes was born on April 13, 1946 in Reidsville, North Carolina to the late Elizabeth Walker Bradshaw and William "Tom" Bradshaw. She was called to her eternal home on Thursday, January 10, 2013 and was preceded in death by her mother and father; brother, William Bradshaw, Jr.; and sister, Sherron Bradshaw Simmons.

A celebration of her life will be held on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. at First Baptist Church with the pastor, Dr. Joseph A. Bryant, serving as Eulogist. Burial will follow in the Greenview Cemetery.

"Hunt", as she was affectionately known, was a member of First Baptist Church where she was active in the Senior Choir, the Culinary Committee, Mission Group #5 and the Cancer Relay for Life team – "The First Baptist Church Strutters". She sang in the James A. She was also a member of the Reidsville Downtown Senior Citizens Club. An avid sports fan, especially softball, football and basketball, with no special team of her own, she just rooted for everybody's team.

Telephone Company (now Verizon) and retired from the company in 1994 after 27 years of service. Hunter made history when she became the first Black telephone operator hired by the company in Rocky Mount, NC. In recent years since retirement, Hunter Marie found rewarding work while employed as a group home care provider with Therapeutic Alternatives, Inc., and A Place of Their Own, LLC, as well as a substitute teacher with the Rockingham County Consolidated School System.
