Mr. Howard Graves' Obituary
Howard will be greatly missed and all of the wonderful times spent with him greatly remembered.
Howard Graves of Reidsville, NC resided at Home Away From Home Assisted Living Facility. Howard was born September 16, 1921 to the late Johnnie Graves and Katie Thomas Graves. Howard passed away into eternal rest on Tuesday morning November 11, 2014 at Annie Penn Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Howard spent his time as a young man in Newport News where he worked in the ship yard and in Pennsylvania. He returned home to Reidsville, NC with his nephew Thurman Graves who preceded him in death. He spent his time gardening and caring for his roses.
Howard was a person who was going to have the last word. Whenever you approached him with a question he was quick tell you that he educated himself and from reading he was a self-educated teacher, doctor, and lawyer. He loved to sit and read his Bible for hours. He also loved watching the TV shows Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy; you could hear him yelling the answers as if he was on the game shows themselves. During those activities it was an imaginary sign that read "Do Not Disturb".
Howard Graves is survived by two brothers; Cecil Graves (Hazel) and John Graves. He also is survived by Jackie Blackwell who he treated more like a daughter and best friend; she cared for him up to his death; Shuvon Rankin whom he referred to as Top Brass; David Wilson whom he spent his time trying to figure out which one knew the most and both knowing it all; Two special nieces, Shirlean Gay who he clung to and treated as a daughter after the death of Thurman; Rosetta Williamson who made sure that he was able to make it to church on Sunday, when he was able; and a host of nieces, nephews and associates.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 pm, Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Garrett's Grove United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 12:30 pm - 1: 00 pm prior to the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Timothy Fitzgerald wil deliver the eulogy.
