Purpose was born October 7, 1926 and ended on July 30, 2014,. God allowed Herman Wesley Hines the opportunity to see day and capture all that he loved and cherished in his earthly home.
Funeral Services will be Monday, August 4, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Zion Baptist Church. The visitation will be 12:30 pm-1:00 pm prior to the service. Burial will follow in Greenview Cemetery.
Herman "Coach" Hines was the first offspring born to the late Charles and Lucy Hines in Wilson, North Carolina. During his years in pre and secondary education, he attended the public schools in Wilson County School System. While attending Darden High School and playing football, Herman was also chosen to be the head coach. He pursued his post-secondary education at North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC. It was during this time that he met his wife to be Thelma Louise Weaver, later to become Thelma Hines.
Coach, as he was affectionately called by most joined Zion Baptist Church where he actively went about God's work until his death. He was a member of the deacon board where he served faithfully for many of years. Herman was a retired educator and school administrator for Rockingham County Schools. He was a member and served as president of the North Carolina State School Board. Herman was a North Carolina Central Hall of Fame inductee, CIAA Officials Hall of Fame inductee as well as North Carolina High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame inductee. Herman Hines was a long time member of the Reidsville Lion's Club. There were a host of other community, civic, and state organizations for which he was affiliated and held top office.
He leaves behind to celebrate his life one daughter, Cheryl M. Hines of Reidsville, North Carolina and one son Pastor Eric W. Hines (Wanda Hines) of Brown Summit, North Carolina; six grandchildren, (Christian, Kamilah, Ayana, Jetaunn, Keba, and Kamaria); 4 great-grandchildren; surviving brother, Charles Hines and spouse Sandra Hines; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
