Obituary

Mrs. Harriet Hunter Maynard, beloved wife of Jerry L. Maynard, was granted her angel wings on Thursday, January 14, 2021 at the Methodist Medical Center in Richardson, Texas.

She was born the second of five children in Newnan, Georgia to the late Theodore Hunter and Mildred Miller Hunter on September 22, 1950.  Graveside services will be held on Thursday, January 28, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, 420 Mizpah Church Road, Reidsville, North Carolina.

At an early age, the family moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where she spent her childhood.  Harriett's Christian experience started at Friendship Baptist Church where she accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age.

Harriett attended Horace Mann Elementary School and Central Middle School, and graduated from Central High School in Kansas City, Missouri.  After high school, she attended the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, Missouri and later earned her B.A. degree in Literary Studies from the University of Texas at Dallas.

While visiting her brother in Dallas, Harriett met the love of her life, Jerry L. Maynard, formerly of Reidsville, NC. After a long-distance relationship that included many airplane trips, the two were united in Holy Matrimony on October 15, 1988.  From this union, one child was born - Brandon Milo Maynard.

Harriett had a loving, kind, and warm heart.  Her beautiful smile would warm any room.  Family was the central most thing she cherished.  On most days, Harriett could be seen taking her three mile walk through the neighborhood.

Harriett retired from Garland Independent School District after teaching for many years.

In addition to her parents, Harriett was preceded in death by her brothers, Julian A. Hunter and Jeffrey Hunter, Sr.; and her sister, Shalise Hunter.

Harriett's loving memory and legacy is left to be cherished by:  her loving husband, Jerry L. Maynard; son, Brandon Milo Maynard (Lourdes); sister, Marilyn L. Hunter of Kansas City, Missouri; sister-in-law, Cheryl Rooks Hunter of Desoto, Texas; nephews, Jeffrey Hunter, Jr., of Desoto, Texas and Thurmond Maynard, II (Edith), of Laurel, Maryland; niece, Kimberly Maynard Scott (Aaron), of High Point, North Carolina; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
