Obituary

Mrs. Gracie Lee Harrison Graves passed on Tuesday 26, 2020 at Pelican Health, Reidsville, NC.  Graveside services will be held on Sunday, May 31, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Elm Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Reidsville, NC.  Public viewing will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2020, 1 - 7 p.m. at McLaurin Funeral Home.  ( Due to the COVID-19 restrictions on home to home visitations, the Harrison and Graves family requests that you keep them in your prayers during this difficult time).

Mrs. Gracie Lee Harrison Graves was born on August 10, 1930 to the late Elijah and Susie Lawson Harrison. A native of Reidsville, Gracie received her early education in the public schools of Rockingham County and earned her Bachelor of Science Degree from Winston-Salem State Teachers College (now Winston-Salem State University) in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She did further study at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Meredith College in Raleigh, NC, and North Carolina A & T State University in Greensboro, NC. She felt that loving God was the source of her success and she expressed that love through her teaching in the Reidsville community schools for more than 35 years.

Joining Elm Grove Baptist Church at an early age, she served faithfully until her health declined as the Recording Secretary, Assistant Secretary of the Missionaries, Assistant Secretary of the Program Committee, Advisor to the Junior Ever Ready Missionaries, Sunday School Scholar, and President of the Willing Workers. Additionally, Gracie loved attending Bible Study and Prayer Meetings. She loved God and she loved her Pastor and the church family dearly. More often than not, you could hear her singing her staple hymns while sitting on the 3 rd pew – "I'm Free", "God Has Smiled On Me", and "I'm On My Way", while waving her Bible in the air. In her pursuit to be more like Jesus, she would constantly say, "I haven't dotted every "I" or crossed every "T", and "If I have any enemies, I didn't make them". She was quick to forgive and loved everyone.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Spencer Graves; son, Lawrence Graves; two sisters, Annie Mason and Susie Nicholson; and three brothers, Elijah Harrison, Jr., Willie Harrison, and Hildred Harrison.

She leaves to cherish precious memories: her sisters, Charlotte Wilson, of Reidsville, NC, Cecelia Blackwell (Haywood), of Browns Summit, NC, and Gloria Welborne (Sullivan), of Greensboro, NC; brothers, Thurman Harrison (JoAnn), of Greensboro, NC; and Aaron Harrison (Peggy), of Reidsville, NC; special niece, Donna Baskerville (Michael), of Greensboro, NC; sisters-in-law, Ernestine Harrison and Pearl Harrison, both of Greensboro, NC; godson, Travis Jackson, of Hockessin, DE, and Major Blackwell, of Greensboro, NC; nieces; nephews; cousins; caregivers, Bisceglari Wilson, Geraldine Blackwell, Lena Badgett and Lucille Motley; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.

McLaurin is serving the family.
