Gloria Bass Walker was the second child born to the late Henry J. Bass and Annie Hodnett Bass on April 11, 1943 in Reidsville, NC.  "Glo" as she was affectionately called, departed this earthly life peacefully on February 17, 2020 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC.

Glo grew up on Branch Street, was tall for her age and known by many as the neighborhood enforcer.  She protected her older brother William Henry better known as "H", but would handle him if necessary.  As the oldest daughter, she helped raise her younger siblings and assisted with elderly family members.

A graduate of the 1961 class of Booker T. Washington High School, she was a member of the National Honor Society and voted by her peers as being the "Most Businesslike".  Glo learned typing and shorthand under Mrs. Exia Woods and was part of the high school chorus under the direction of Mr. J.A. Major.  After graduating high school, she relocated to Washington, DC and attended Cortez Peters Business School where she won accolades for her typing abilities.  She was hired by the United States Treasury Department and worked as a clerk typist and retired as a personnel administrator.  She enjoyed bowling, fishing, dancing and traveling with best friends.

She joined First Baptist Church at an early age and was an active member of Matthews Memorial Baptist Church in Washington, DC where she was a faithful member of the Coger Choraliers Choir.  Upon returning to Reidsville, Gloria reunited with First Baptist Church where she was a member of Mission Group 145.

Her husband, Thomas J. Walker, and special friend, Williette Hamlet Durant preceded her in death.

Those left to cherish her memory are:  a loving mother, Mrs. Annie H. Bass, of Reidsville, NC; three sisters, Addie Spence (Luther), of Maywood, IL, Vanessa Dale Wilson (Alvino), of Reidsville, NC and Glenda Kilgore (Richard "Roc"), of Charlotte; three brothers, William Bass, of Reidsville, NC, Sterling Bass (Linda), of Pelham, NC and Anthony "Tony" Bass (Karen), of Atlanta, GA; sister-in-law, Ruby Boyce, of Washington, DC; adopted sister, Mamie Dawkins, of Bowie, MD; godson, Gregory Dawkins, of Bowie, MD; special friends Sandra Slade, of Reidsville, NC and Antoinette Young, of Clinton, MD; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a plethora of dear friends.
