George Finnily Redd was born February 2, 1946 to the late Adeline Cobb Redd and Sterling Redd in Rockingham County, NC.
George was the youngest of eight (8) siblings. George grew up in Reidsville, NC and in the very early 60's George relocated to Newark, NJ. There he met his wife Sonya Redd. They courted for 8 years before saying I DO. George and Sonya were together 18 years before divorcing in 1984 but remained friends and family over the years and stayed in touch.
He worked for Wakefern Food Corporation where he met and became best friends with his then future brother-in-law, Rico Hawkins (now deceased). He also worked for Italian Swiss Colony as a truck driver for many years. He retired and relocated back to Reidsville, NC in 1998 to live with his closest sister Gloria Suggs. George enjoyed a pastime of working on cars, fishing and playing pool. He also loved the Carolina Panthers and enjoyed cooking. He once took old car parts and rebuilt a car. He was great with his hands and could fix anything in the house. He was also a great dad to his son Brian Keith and daughter in law Michelle. He loved spending time with them and the grandkids whenever possible. While growing up, Brian Keith learned a lot from his father including wisdom. He was the favorite uncle to 29 nieces and nephews just to name a few. God also blessed him to see a 4th generation of nieces and nephews.
George entered his eternal rest on July 17, 2025. In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by two brothers, Sterling Redd, Oscar Redd, three sisters, Gloria Redd Suggs, Eliza Bethel and Frances Inez Brown, and one granddaughter, Arielle N. Albani.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his son Brian (Michelle), two grandchildren, Kalel and Zahria, two sisters, Gonnie Blackwell and Elizabeth (Polly) Graves, two very special nieces who cared for him since the passing of his sister Gloria, Debra & Lisa Suggs; and a host of other relatives and friends.
