EDEN - Mr. George C. Moyer, age 90, passed away Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at his residence.
Public viewing will begin on Saturday, February 22, 2025 from 2 until 7 p.m. at McLaurin-Harris Funeral Home, 721 East Morehead Street, Reidsville, NC.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 23, 2025 at 2 p.m. at Grooms Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 2166 Grooms Road, Reidsville, NC. The family visitation will take place at 1:30 p.m. Reverend Tommy Williamson will preside and Pastor Marland Wiggins, eulogist.
The committal and interment will follow in the Grooms Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
George affectionately called "Son" was born in Ruffin, NC on September 2, 1934 to Robert Pleasant Moyer and Irene Helen Ruby Baize Moyer.
George was raised in Rockingham County and attended Lincoln School where he met his wife Sallie.
As a young boy, he helped his dad on the farm and continued to help while working a full-time job. He worked for Lorillard Tobacco Company for many years until his retirement. He was well known to have a checkers board set up in the break room and played everyday. The employees loved him dearly. He also dressed up as Santa Claus during Christmas.
He was a sports enthusiast. He enjoyed playing baseball and bowling. He loved golfing with his family and friends. He taught a lot of people how to golf. He also loved his cars. He was well-known in the community through his love of sports, people and his out-going personality.
He was a member of Grooms Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the Trustee Board, Male Chorus and with his wife, they served over the Senior Saints Ministry.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Eugene Moyer, Robert Lee Moyer, Joe Moyer and Spencer Moyer; sisters, Vinnie Pinnix and Maggie Griffin; granddaughter, Tina Johnson; foster brothers, Nelson "Tatpole" Milliner and Nathan Hicks.
Survivors include wife, Sallie K. Moyer of the home; sons, George Elvis Moyer (Tracey) of Winston-Salem, NC; Stanley Moyer (Kae) of Greensboro, NC; daughters, Vanessa Nimmons (Elder Marvin) of Eden, NC, Teresa Womack (Danny) of Winston-Salem, NC, Shelia Moyer of Madison, NC and Pamela Ore (Quincy) of Eden, NC; sister, Frances Nunley of Eden, NC; a cousin raised like a sister, Drucilla Millner of Pittsburgh, PA;16 grandchildren; a plethora of great and great-great grandchildren, cousins and friends.
