Freeman Cobb,
Sr.
Mar 12, 1927 — May 12, 2019
Mr. Freeman Cobb, Sr. passed peacefully on Sunday evening, May 12, 2019 at Curis of Reidsville, NC. The Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 17, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Elm Grove Baptist Church with family visitation beginning at 1:30 p.m.
He was born on March 12, 1927 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania to parents, Lola Harrison Cobb and Arthur Cobb, who both preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his son; Minister Freeman Cobb Jr.
Joining Elm Grove Baptist Church at an early age, he served tirelessly until his health declined in 2018. He served as a Trustee and a member of the Gospel Choir, oftentimes driving the choir all over North Carolina to sing praises unto the Lord.
Mr. Cobb was employed at American Tobacco Company for more than 34 years, retiring in 1986. After formal retirement, he continued working for many more years in Cobb Cleaning Services cleaning local banks, offices, and governmental complexes. In his "spare time", he made medicinal salves and syrups for the sick and shut-in and visited the local hospitals and nursing homes on a daily basis. He also enjoyed woodworking as a hobby and it is not unusual even now for folks to point out a reindeer, or birdhouse or house number sign that he made and gifted to them.
"PaPa" as he was affectionately called, loved life and had a zest for living. He never met a stranger and had numerous friendships and acquaintances. He was a fun-loving gentle giant, who even enjoyed a foot-race with the younger crowd in the community. Though he always won the race, he also always gave words of wisdom and encouragement. One of his favorite sayings was "Age is just a number….you're as young as you feel."
He leaves to cherish precious memories: his loving wife of 67 years - Elsie Powell Cobb, of the home; daughters – Denise Gail Arunta, of Reidsville, NC and Angela C. Moore (Rev. Dr. Kenneth Moore), of Eden, NC; son-in-law, Stanley Arunta, of Reidsville, NC, daughter-in-law, Gwendolyn Cobb, Greensboro. NC; five grandchildren; Colby Diggs (Lynsey),Reidsville, NC, Harlan Moore (Jannell), Reidsville, NC, Tiffany M. Callands (Eric),Eden, NC, Shannon M. Gaston (Joey), Reidsville, NC, twelve great-grandchildren; special niece, Lorraine "Poochie" Cobb, of Harrisburg, PA; special cousin, Ollie H.
