Obituary

Minister Freeman Cobb, Jr. passed on Monday, May 28, 2018 at Annie Penn Hospital.  Funeral services will be Sunday, June 3, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.at Elm Grove Baptist Church, with visitation one half hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow in Elm Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.  Public viewing will be 11:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.

Minister Cobb, affectionately known as "Honey" to his wife, and "Jimmy" to his family, transitioned from this earthly life to eternal life with the Lord on Monday, May 28, 2018.  He was the only son of Freeman Cobb, Sr. and Elsie Powell Cobb, born on July 17, 1955.

He became a member of Elm Grove Baptist Church at an early age.  Recently, on May 13, 2018, he restored his membership with his home church. Prior to that he attended church with his wife at New Hope Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC where he assisted the Pastor and ministered wherever he was needed.  In 1985, he accepted the call to ministry under the leadership of Dr. Clarence Johnson.  He was later ordained by the Guilford Educational and Missionary Baptist Association, where he later served as a Field Worker.  He served as Pastor of Mt. Glory Missionary Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, NC.

Minister Cobb often expressed his loved for the Lord.  He was quiet, meek, and humble.  He was known to always be kind, thoughtful, considerate, and did whatever he could to help others.  He willingly gave of himself with love and his time.

A 1973 graduate of Reidsville Senior High School, he was employed as a truck driver for Vanity Fair Corporation in Greensboro, NC and most recently as a transport driver for Hometown Buick and GMC in Reidsville, NC.

He was preceded in death by his sister - Abigail Cobb; maternal grandparents - Major Powell, Sr. and Lillie Scales Powell; and paternal grandparents - Arthur and Lola Cobb.

He leaves to cherish precious memories, his loving and devoted wife - Gwendolyn F. Cobb; step-sons - Kenyatta and Wesley Williamson, Jr; mother and father - Elsie Powell Cobb and Freeman Cobb, Sr.; sisters - Denise Gail Arunta, of Reidsville, NC, and Angela C. Moore (Rev. Kenneth N. Moore), of Eden, NC; brothers-in-law - Stanley N. Arunta, of Reidsville, NC and Michael Smith, of Greensboro, NC; sister-in-law - Denise Summers (Dennis Summers), of Rural Hall, NC; five grandchildren; and a special grandson - Tacuma Cave; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.  In addition, he held a special bond with friends Ronnie Ellison, Henry McDuffy, Donnell Pickard, King Samuel Arunta, Maurice Harrison and Kenny Williamson.
