Evangelist Martha Jean Lawson was born on November 19, 1940 in Reidsville, North Carolina, the second oldest daughter of the late Joe Winchester and Gladys Winchester Lane. Jean received her heavenly rest on Good Friday morning, April 10, 2020.
Until her health declined, she served as a faithful evangelist of the Gospel at Christ Temple Church of Deliverance of the Apostolic Faith, Inc., in Reidsville, North Carolina. Jean enjoyed many interests, including praying for the lost, cooking for her family and preaching the Word of God. One of her favorite scriptures was: "Touch not my anointed and do my prophet no harm" (Psalm 105:15). Jean loved to praise the Lord with a dance and didn't mind going to hospitals as well as nursing homes to spread the love of God. She was known for singing songs at church and home while she was cleaning, such as "Lord, I Just Want to Thank You", "Til I Die" and "He Knows How".
Affectionately known as "Ma", "Evangelist Lawson", and "Minister Lawson", to know her was to love her and all who did, couldn't wait to hear that joyful voice on the phone shout out, "Hello! Jesus is the answer!" She was never ashamed of Him. He was her life and she made this known to everyone she met. She loved caring for her grandchildren as much as she did pleasing God. Through her blessed life, she was a caregiver to many, feeding the neighborhood kids, praying for people off of the street, and giving her all as she did the work of the ministry.
Preceding her in death are her siblings, Patricia Winchester, Floyd Winchester, Connell "Red" Winchester, Barbara "Bobbie Jo" Galloway, Frankie Lane and Richard Lane.
Those left to cherish her memories are: her beloved daughter, Carol Jean Lawson, of Reidsville, NC; two sons: Ray Lawson, of Reidsville, NC, and Leonard Lawson, Jr. (Jeanette), of Greensboro, NC; six sisters: Shirley Williamson (Nathaniel), Sandra Winchester and Bonnie Kay Jones, all of Reidsville, NC, Cindy Winchester, Tancie Jones (Martin) and Nancy Galloway (Oma), all of Greensboro, NC; four brothers: John Henry Winchester, Kenny Lane, Jerry Lee Winchester (Mary) and Arbon "B" Lane (Wanda), all of Reidsville, NC; fourteen grandchildren: Anthony Lawson, Alana Lawson, Alica Neal, Jonathan Lawson, Tara McMaster Moore, Jessica Lawson, Derrick Allen, Timothy Allen, Michael Allen, Jervita Lawson, Shalita Lawson, Jennifer Lawson, Jermika Allen, and Anthony Allen; and a plethora of other great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relative and friends.
