GREENSBORO - Master Sergeant Ernest Edward Sawyer, age 76, passed away Thursday, December 5, 2024 at his residence.

Please keep his sister Elder Beverly S. Kinsey (Reginald) and the entire family in your prayers.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 14, 2024 at 3 p.m. at McLaurin-Harris Memorial Chapel, 721 East Morehead Street, Reidsville, NC. Pastor Ronnie Liggins, Jr., officiating and Pastor Timothy Simmons, eulogist.

The committal will follow along with military honors performed by the United States Air Force Honor Guard.

He was born on November 24, 1948, to the late Lula Mae and Walter George Sawyer, Sr., at L. Richardson Hospital in Greensboro, NC.

Ernest, the third child born to Walter and Lula, attended Guilford County Schools and at the age of eighteen enlisted in the Air Force. His entry in the armed forces was during the Vietnam conflict. He exited the military some years later, having attained the rank of Master Sergeant.

A word to describe Ernest would be complex. However, he chose to live simply, quiet and privately. He has a heart for family and showed great  concern for the generations to follow.

Ernest's memory will be cherished by his sister, Beverly (Reginald); nephew, Shawn Byron; great-nephews, Ya'Qway and D'Marko; great-nieces, Korina, Korian, Cameron and Morgan; great-great nephew, Mason; and generations of cousins. Ernest thought very highly of his brother-in-law, Reginald and called him brother.
