Obituary

Elder Joseph Harrison transitioned from his earthly home to his heavenly mansion on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, North Carolina.  A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at 1:30 p.m. at Benaja Mt. Zion Holiness Church of God, Inc., 600 McWalker Road, Reidsville, NC, with family visitation one half hour prior to the service.  Public viewing will be held on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at 1:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the McLaurin Memorial Chapel.

He was born in Reidsville, North Carolina on April 26, 1942 to the late Joseph C. and Waxie Anna Price Harrison.  He attended Booker T. Washington High School in Reidsville, NC, the class of 1960.

Joseph worked on the family tobacco farm as a young teen.  In 1966, Joseph moved to Newark, New Jersey with Louis Harrison to find him a good woman. While working at Joe Grill Imperial Molding in 1967, he met his wife Colleen.

In 1973, he opened up an auto shop named H.P.W. with Charles Pinnix and Watlington in Newark, NJ.  After marrying his wife and having five children, he decided to move back to North Carolina with his family, to make it his home.

In May of 1977, he began work at White Oak Plant - Cone Mills in Greensboro, North Carolina where he retired, after 25 years of textile labor.  He also worked as a foster parent and child care professional along with his wife.

In 1977, Elder Joseph Frank Harrison gave his life to Christ and joined Benaja Mount Zion Holiness Church of God Inc.  In 1999, God gave him a vision to build a church on the farm land with his sons, Titus Mark Harrison and Lawrence Eddie Harrison, along with Deacon D. Noble.

In addition to his parents, Elder Joseph Frank Harrison was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Annie Price; his son, Donnie Frank Harrison; his sister, Amber Lee Richardson; his brothers, Rudolph Harrison and Arthur Harrison, and his grandsons, Shelton Wright and Cornelius Harrison.

Those left to cherish precious memories are:  his loving wife, Colleen Harrison, of the home; children, Beatrice Collins, of Greensboro, NC, Channa (Sheldon) Harrison-Wright, of Pilot Mountain, NC, Rev. Joseph (Sandra) Harrison, of Greensboro, NC, Waxie (Bishop Alphonse Nicholson), of Reidsville, NC, Rev. Lawrence (Angela) Harrison, of Reidsville, NC, Donna (Monoleto) Scales, of Reidsville, NC, Morique (Marlon) Fountain, of Winston-Salem, NC, Titus (Marlene) Harrison, of Danville, VA, Sheneka Harrison, of Greensboro, NC, Sherita (Antione) Paylor, of Reidsville, NC, Doris (Shawn) Ellison, of Reidsville, NC, and Dorene (Almonzo) Bridges, of Atlanta, GA; fifty-six grandchildren; forty-three great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Ashton and Yolanda McLaurin and the McLaurin Funeral Home staff at 721 East Morehead Street in Reidsville, NC are serving the family.
