Mrs. Edna Withers passed peacefully at her residence on Thursday, July 4, 2019.  Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 13, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Elm Grove Baptist Church, with family visitation beginning one half hour prior to the service.  Public viewing will be held on Friday, July 12, 2019 from 1 pm. until 7 p.m.

Edna Earl Powell Withers, daughter of the late Cajor Powell and Lillie Scales Powell, was born on March 7, 1927 in Reidsville, North Carolina.  She caught the early morning train to her heavenly home in glory on Thursday, July 4th, 2019 with family by her side.

Edna attended Reidsville Public Schools, and being the seventh child of twelve, she only had an elementary school education. Her willingness to work at an early age helping at home and day work for others afforded her opportunities to become a quiet, smart, talented, and caring young lady.  She loved cleaning inside and outside of the home. She also loved singing and reciting nursery rhymes to the children.

She joined Elm Grove Baptist Church at an early age and loved the Lord.  She was destined to be a willing worker following in her mother's footsteps. Edna was a kind free hearted spirit, who loved her family, church, and friends dearly.  She was crowned Willing Worker Mother of the Year in 1980.

She was employed by Annie Penn Hospital, a dedicated willing worker for over thirty years.  She always requested time off for church homecoming, revivals, and choir anniversary.  She would join in her special touch of love and hospitality with special dishes.

Surviving relatives whose lives were enriched by her legacy and favorite saying " you know right from wrong" are one son - Gerald Withers, of Reidsville, NC; daughters - Patricia Fountain, of the home and Velma Davis, of Reidsville, NC; sister - Elsie P. Cobb, of Reidsville, NC; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law - Lena W. McDaniel, and Myrtle Withers; brother-in-law - Garfield Withers (Lydia); and god daughter and co-worker of Annie Penn Hospital - Betty Howard.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband - William Lindsey Withers; her son - William Fredrick Withers; five brothers - William, Fred, Lorenzo, Cajor, Joe Frank; and five sisters - Eva, Frances, Rosa Bell, Addie and Susan.
