REIDSVILLE, NC - Mr. Douglas Eugene Stockton, Sr., age 88, passed away peacefully into the loving arms of the Lord on Sunday, November 16, 2025 at home.
Public vieiwng will begin on Friday, November 21, 2025 from 12 until 6 p.m. at McLaurin-Harris Funeral Home, 721 East Morehead Street, Reidsville, NC.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 22, 2025 from the Zion Baptist Church, 807 Piedmont Street, Reidsville, NC. Visitation with the family will begin at 11 a.m., followed by the service at 11:30 a.m. Minister Venus Womble will preside and Reverend Marland Wiggins, eulogist.
The committal and interment with military honors performed by the United States Army Honor Guard will follow in Grooms Chapel Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Reidsville, NC.
All other times, the family will receive friends at the home, 191 Stockton Road, Reidsville, NC.
Douglas Eugene "Grandaddy" Stockton, Sr., was born on March 3, 1937 at the home place in Henry County, VA to the late Tommie Joe and Millie Beatrice Stultz Stockton. He attended local schools, later graduating from George Washington Carver High School in 1955. Afterwards, he served in the Medic Unit in the US Army for 3 years. Once returning from his military tour of duty, he was introduced and later married Airlene E. Davis (was introduced to her by her brother). Their 66 year union was blessed with 5 children. Douglas was baptized and joined Zion Baptist Church here in Reidsville where he served over the years as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, as well as a member of various choirs under the leadership and Rev. E. L Kirby. Presently, a member of the Grooms Chapel Missionary Baptist Church where he served as trustee, president of senior choir, member of men's choir, culinary committee, and other capacities. He was employed with Guilford Dairy where he was fondly known as "the milkman" here in the city. Also, working in masonry construction including Rockingham, Guilford, and surrounding counties. Later, he established the successful construction business of Dug and Dug Construction Company. He was active in the school system and other civil and community services.
Preceded in death by parents Tommie Joe and Millie B Stockton. Siblings: sisters Gladys Stockton, Mary Gilbert, and Eunice Hairston. Brothers Thomas Ulysses Stockton and Elree Stockton. Grandson Marcus Andrew Thompson. Mother-in-law Beatrice E. Allen. Daughter-in-law Celestine Stockton, grandmother in-law Pairlee P. Davis, In-laws Ethel Mae Lane, Lorraine Stockton, Fredrick Redd, Dover Hairston, and Melvin Lane, Sr.
He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 66 years Airlene Elizabeth Davis Stockton, children Pamela D. Baynes, Douglas E. Stockton, Jr., Francine M. Mitchell, Darlena E. Thompson (Robert), and Raheem D. Lee. 9 beloved grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. Siblings Massine S. Redd, Dorthula Sue Johnson (Nathan), Richard Stockton (Josephine). Sister in-law Wilma Stockton. Brothers in-law George Gilbert and Charles E. Davis (Mae). Special family and friends include Benjamin Simpson (Vernell), Clarance Rankin , Roy Simpson, Jr and a host of other beloved family and friends.
