REIDSVILLE, NC - Mrs. Dorothy Lucille Graves Southern, age 84, passed away Monday, December 1, 2025 at Yanceyville Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Yanceyville, NC.
Public viewing will begin on Friday, December 5, 2025 from 12 until 6 p.m. at McLaurin-Harris Funeral Home, 721 East Morehead Street, Reidsville, NC.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 6, 2025 from the Saint James Missionary Baptist Church, 248 Benton Road, Reidsville, NC. Visitation with the family will begin at 2:30 p.m., followed by the service at 3 p.m. Pastor Thomas Long, eulogist.
The committal and interment will follow in the Saint James Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Reidsville, NC.
Dorothy L. Graves Southern was born on April 17, 1941 to William Edward Graves & Elnora Nash Graves in Rockingham County, NC. She gained her heavenly wings on December 1, 2025 at the Yanceyville Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Yanceyville, NC.
Dorothy grew up working on the farm with her family. She also worked in a number of manufacturing plants.
"Dot" as she was affectionately known loved to sing, was excellent at growing flowers and loved trying different foods. She never met a stranger and loved everybody. She was an amazing caregiver to her son, Lonza Graves, her brother, R.D. Graves and her nephew, Elbert Graves all of whom she loved dearly. Aunt Dorothy had a giving spirit. If you needed anything and she had it, she would not hesitate to help you. She will truly be missed.
She was preceded in death by her father, Williams E. Graves; mother, Elnora Graves; brothers, William E. Graves, Jr., Lawrence E. Graves, R.D. Graves, Frances Graves and Winston Graves; sisters, Annie Bell Boswell, Selma Hughes and Thelma Graves.
Survivors include sisters, Sarah Wright, Richetta Graves Perkins, Lena Mae Graves, Mae Long and Geneva Long (Rev. Thomas Long); a host of nieces nephews, cousins and friends who will miss her dearly.
