Obituary

Dorothy Crawford Macklin, a loving wife, mother, aunt, sister, sister-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, cousin and friend was called from her earthly labor and made her peaceful transition on April 27 th , 2014.

Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Zion Baptist Church, Reidsville, NC with a visitation 2:30-3:00 P.M. prior to the service and burial to take place at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Reidsville, NC.

"Ma Mack"or "Dot" affectionately called by many was born in Hamtramck, Michigan and graduated from Hamtramck High School in Detroit, Michigan. She worked in an aviation unit factory during World War II, where she met and married the love of her life, George W. Macklin, on March 28, 1944.From this union, they were blessed with four sons: George D., Richard, Donald, and Marlowe Macklin. She had a special love for her boys.

"Ma Mack" was a past member of Bethel A.M.E. Church on Holderby Street, Reidsville, NC, where her service included membership on the Pastor's Aide, and the Kitchen Committees, and the Senior Choir.

"Ma Mack" was led by the spirit of God to join the Zion Baptist Church, Reidsville, NC under the leadership of Reverend Michael Anthony Long. She was a member of Mission Group #2 (Esther). She was also a member of the Senior Choir until physical health challenges prevented her from singing. Her community membership included the Sunset Flower Club of Reidsville, NC.

"Ma Mack" was well known for her culinary skills, with Chinese food as just one of her many specialties. She also possessed an exquisite taste for fashion.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Macklin and son, George D. (Sharon) Macklin.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories: one sister, Joyce O'Neal of Detroit, Michigan; two sisters–in-law: Eleanor Crawford of Chicago, IL, and Kris Crawford of Detroit, MI; sons, Richard Macklin (Flo), of Reidsville, NC; Donald Macklin (Myra), Greensboro, NC; and Marlowe Macklin of Reidsville, NC.; Grandchildren, Marlena Macklin; Shannon Macklin; Adawne Glenn (Hunter); Angell Macklin, Reidsville, NC; Amber Macklin and Marlowe Macklin II, of Greensboro, NC; Ryan Macklin, Kernersville, NC; and one great-granddaughter, Braniya Morgan of Reidsville, NC.

Special nieces: Yvonne Macklin of Richmond, VA and Diane Elmore of Smithtown, NY. She had one god-daughter, Charmal Milliner-Ross.

Loving and special friends included: Annie P. Johnson of Winston Salem, NC; Beatrice Tucker of Reidsville, NC; and Annie Pearl Stockton of Reidsville, NC. "Ma Mack" was blessed with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.

The Macklin family would like to give special recognition to Mrs. Florence Simpson of Reidsville, NC for the countless hours spiritually and physically spent for the care of "Ma Mack" at the Penn Center Nursing Home.
