Deacon James
Price, Jr.

Deacon James Price, Jr. was born in Pelham, Caswell County, NC on May 2, 1926 to the late James Quickman Price and the late Mary Sue Jefferies Price and he entered into eternal rest on Monday, March 4, 2019 at his home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Gwynn's Chapel Baptist Church with family visitation one half hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Gwynn's Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
Deacon Price joined Gwynn's Chapel at an early age professing his love for Jesus Christ. He graduated from Caswell County Training High School on May 1, 1944 after which he enlisted in the U.S. Army in March of 1945 and was honorably discharged in 1946. He then joined the Army Combat Search and Rescue from October-1946 to October-1949, while also working as an Insurance Agent at Southern Aid Insurance and Dan River Mills, both in Danville, Va.
In 1948, he married the late Ethleen Louise Irving Price and was united in holy matrimony for 47 years. After leaving Dan River Mills in 1951, he moved to Pennsylvania and joined First Baptist Church of Paschall in Philadelphia, PA under Rev. S.L. Taylor where he was an avid church worker and Deacon. He then became employed by General Steel Casting Co. as a Rigger until 1954 and during that same year, he began working as a machine operator at Baldwin-Lima Hamilton Corp., both in Eddystone, PA until 1969. He later became a machine operator at Westinghouse in Lester, PA and soon after, became employed by Tulsa Machine Corp. in Folcroft, PA until 1978. His last employment was as a Machinist Forman at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard until he retired in 1994. During this time, he also attended Cheyney State College in Cheyney, PA and maintained Dean's List status all 4 years while he earned his Social Sciences degree in Psychology in 1983.
He joined First African Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Richard Dent on October 20,1991 and was a faithful Deacon there until he moved back to Pelham, NC to live with his daughter in 2007, at which time he received official membership in the American Legion. Immediately upon his return, he renewed his membership at Gwynn's Chapel Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Charles Glenn where he remained a faithful member and Deacon until his final days.
Deacon Price is preceded in death by his wife, both of his parents and his two sisters, Thelma Price and Ophelia Price.
Cherishing precious memories of his life are: one daughter, Teresa Price DeJarnette of the home; three sisters, Barbara Jean Williams of Philadelphia, PA, Carolyn Abbott and Audrey Buchanan both of Pelham, NC; one granddaughter, Celena DeJarnette King (LaMont) of Eden, NC; three great-grandsons, Douglas Anderson, Jr. of Washington, DC, Daunte' King and DuRon King, both of Eden, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
