REIDSVILLE, NC - Deacon John L. Morrison, Jr., age 84, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2026 at Gibson House Ancora Compassionate Care Hospice.
A viewing will begin on Saturday, April 11, 2026 from 12 until 7 p.m., followed by the wake with the family present from 6 until 7 p.m. at McLaurin-Harris Memorial Chapel, 721 East Morehead Street, Reidsville, NC.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 12, 2026 from the Hilltop Church of Christ, 884 Way Street, Reidsville, NC. Visitation with the family will begin at 12:30 p.m., followed by the service at 1 p.m. Elder Donnie Johnson, eulogist.
The committal and interment will follow in the Elm Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Reidsville, NC.
All other times, the family will receive friends at the home (209 Broad Street, Reidsville)
John attended North Scales Street Elementary School where he met the love of his life, Estella Galloway when he was in the seventh grade. He attended the illustrious Booker T. Washington High School where he excelled in Basketball and Football. In his latter years he was inducted into the Booker T. Washington Football Hall of Fame.
He and Estella married in 1961. Being married 59 years, they built a legacy with three beautiful daughters.
Early on, John understood the importance of hard work and perseverance. For over twenty years John worked as a machinist and mechanic at Zarn Inc. In 2003, John retired and was honored for his hard work and appreciation.
At an young age, he accepted Jesus Christ, receiving salvation in September 1984 at Prayer, Faith and Deliverance Holiness Church under the leadership of Elder Robert Taylor. Shortly thereafter Elder Taylor began pastoralship at Shiloh Church of God in Christ and observed the works of John and called him for the office of Deaconship. There he was ordained as a Deacon. Together, he and Elder Taylor traveled many places doing missionary work for the Kingdom, as well, they started "Dial A Prayer" radio ministry in 1986. The Lord led Deacon John to do Outreach Ministry. He truly had a passion to please God and serve God's people. Throughout the years, Deacon John assisted and was affiliated with various God believing churches and denominations. He proudly called himself "The Preachers Friend." He spearheaded many ministries and was recognized for his work in the community and churches. On Saturday, April 4, 2026, Deacon John's chapter of this life came to a peaceful close as he entered eternal rest, transitioning from mortality to immortality.
Deacon John was predeceased by his parents, John L. Morrison Sr, and Nettie Mae Wheeler Morrison; his wife, Estella G. Morrison; brothers, Pernell Morrison and Eddie L. Morrison; sister, Dorothy A. Morrison; his precious granddaughter, Paris K. Siddle.
Loved ones left to carry his legacy are: daughters, Angela M. Morrison, Retha D. Siddle (Minister Major), Sharon P. Morrison; grandchildren, Adrienne Clark, Larry Cobb Jr. and Destiny Siddle (Fiancé, Jacques); six great-grandchildren; sister Nettie Totton; goddaughter, Pastor Parasenia Jenkins (Pastor, Larry), godson, Brother Witcher; best friend, Edward Speaks; honoring cousin, Jerome Gant, special friend, Linda Hayes-Scales
