Obituary

Ms. Annie Luciel Bracken, age 87, departed her life-long journey on earth on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at Ancora Compassionate Care in Reidsville, NC.

Public viewing will begin on Monday, April 1, 2024 from 12 until 8 p.m. at McLaurin-Harris Funeral Home, 721 East Morehead Street, Reidsville, NC.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Zion Baptist Church, 807 Piedmont Street, Reidsville, NC. Reverend Dr. David L. Bracken, pastor of Jerusalem Baptist Church of East Spencer, NC will deliver the words of comfort.

Ms. Annie Luciel Bracken, daughter of the late Mintoria Troxler Bracken and Mr. Hill Bracken Sr. was born on September 25, 1936.

She graduated from Tougaloo Preparatory School in 1954. She obtained her undergraduate degree from North Carolina Central University and went on to obtain her master's degree from N.C A&T State University in 1976.

Ms. Bracken taught in the Danville Public School system for 33 years. At an early age Ms. Bracken professed her hope for Christ and joined Zion Baptist Church and remained devoted to her church until her illness prevented her to do so.

In her earlier years she worked with the Culinary Ministry, registered children and adults for vacation bible school and taught as well. She also was an Advisor for the Young Adult group where she supported various conventions for the church. Ms. Bracken devoutly served as a Deacon until her health declined as this position was near and dear to her heart. She was honored as Deacon Emeritus for her unwavering dedication and commitment to the church.

Ms. Bracken was also active in the Reidsville Lakers. One of her favorite passions was for the football team "The Dallas Cowboys". Ms. Bracken loved her Cowboys, anyone who knew her knew they were her TEAM!

Ms. Bracken was preceded in death by her parents Mr. Hill and Mintoria Bracken; siblings, James T. Bracken (J.T), Hill Bracken Jr., Marian Howard, and Christine Vanfield.

Ms. Annie Lucile Bracken leaves to cherish her memory, her loving niece/ daughter, Marian Bracken Lawson (Cornell), Phyllis Bracken Wells (William- deceased), Melissa Bracken Howie (Solomon), Rev. David Bracken (Jackie), Lee Lawson (Dominque), Jordan Comer, Aurora Baker, Cynthia Hardesty, and Sue Lyons, a host of relatives and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the entire staff of DaVita Reidsville Dialysis, the Gibson House Hospice (Ancora Compassionate Care), Gerdia Keesee and many others for all they have done for aunt Luciel.
