This life's journey began on October 19, 1944. He is the son of the late Marie Brunson.

David L as he liked to be called was raised in Greensboro, NC with two sisters. He started working at the early age of 12 at Pope Grocery Store. He later worked in the produce department at the grocery chains at Food Lion for 35 years and a Harris Teeter for 3 years until his retirement.

David L had a passion for helping those in need. He volunteered at Oxford Orphanage for over 20 years providing clothes and candy bags for the children at Christmas time to ensure they had a wonderful holiday.

David L was a humble soul who enjoyed watching the news, working puzzles and taking rides with his daughter and granddaughter. He loved to study the word of God and did so faithfully each morning prior to beginning his day. He was a member of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC where he served as a trustee. He loved his family and always had a smile on his face. Often when you would ask him how are you doing, his favorite response was "I'm doing fine fine fine." His infectious smile and laughter will be remembered and missed.

David L was preceded in death by his mother, Marie Brunson and sister, Brenda Phelps.

He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 38 years, Nina Francis Johnson; daughter, Lynette Johnson; granddaughter, Quenisha Williams; great grandson, Zayvion Luther Williams; sister, Paulette Robinson; aunts, Betty Rankin and Catherine Fitzgerald; uncle, Adam Johnson, Jr.; sister-in-laws, Esther Villines and Jennie Williams; nephews, Sean Robinson (Sequana) and Carlos Johnson; a host of relatives and friends.
