Chiara Michon Riddick King departed her earthly life July 9, 2026 at the age of 51, at The Beacon Place, Greensboro, NC, after a courageous and lengthy battle with cancer. On that Thursday with a warm summer breeze blowing in the air, God opened his arms to welcome Chiara to her heavenly home. Chiara fought valiantly against her illness, and for over five years, she defied medical predictions, standing on God’s Word and pressing her way into living life healed and whole. When called to her Heavenly Home, she passed away peacefully in the presence of her family, friends, and devoted husband, Kevin Hubert King. She was a faithful woman, blessed in the care of God, and devoted to Jesus Christ, until the very end.
Chiara was born on July 2, 1975 to the late Cleveland M. Riddick and Audrey Reid Riddick in Greensboro, NC. She attended Greensboro public schools, graduating from James B. Dudley High School in the class of 1993. She later attended Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) and pursued studies in Nursing. Her professional career as an administrative professional included roles at American Express, Lincoln Financial, WSSU, and finally, North Carolina A&T State University.
Chiara received Christ as her Lord and Savior at a very early age. She began her Christian walk as a member of the New Light Missionary Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC. Growing up, she was very active in the Children’s Church, Sunday School, Baptist Training Union, and other activities involving the youth of the church. She was a member of the New Light Griffies Youth Choir, and also sang and traveled with the Dudley High School Gospel Choir.
As an adult she was a member of Mt. Calvary Holy Church in Winston-Salem, NC, where she applied her spiritual gifts in youth and dance ministries, as well as the choir. Around 2009, when she returned to Greensboro, she joined True Salvation Chrisitan Fellowship, serving actively as the praise team leader. In the fullness of time, her spiritual journey led her to join Refuge Church in Greensboro, NC, where she served in various ministries, and she and her husband, Kevin, established and led a small group for worship. Through her years of dedicated church service, her church family and prayer warriors became a part of her spiritual walk with Christ which carried her through the challenges of her battle with cancer.
Chiara was diagnosed with cancer in 2021, less than a year later, the Holy Spirit birthed within her the Tree of L.I.F.E. Project; with L.I.F.E. signifying “Living Inspired by Faith Everyday.” She said that the mission of the project that was given to her by God was to bring awareness of Health Disparities plaguing our communities and to provide health and wellness resources to the cancer community and its loved ones. Through online posts, daily journaling, hosted events, powerful prayer, and her signature green ribbons, Chiara was able to use her life and her struggle to impact others, raise awareness, and establish the Tree of L.I.F.E. as God-given legacy for her children, family and friends to carry forward.
Chiara leaves in God’s infinite care her loving and devoted husband Kevin King, three caring sons, Marquis L. McMahan, Jr., Eugene Shields, III, and Christian Elijah Shields, and a loving daughter Kyerra Ashlee Shields, three bonus daughters Jada King, Paris King and Maya King, a “daughter-in-love” Zarria Ray, a “son-in-love” Montez Martin, her loving niece Bre’Ida Riddick and adoring nephew Ryan “RJ” Livingston. She also leaves to cherish her memory her mother, Audrey Reid Riddick; two brothers, counselors, Kerry C. Riddick (Shirelle) and Dr. Jaret C. Riddick, one brother- in-law, Kenton Albert King and a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, godchildren, other relatives, and very close, special friends. She was preceded in death by her father Cleveland, by her grandparents Elbert Reid, Sr and Iola James Reid, Frank Riddick and Ida Griffin Riddick, sister-in-law, Kristin King, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
For all who knew her, Chiara was a vibrant, humble, joyful woman of God who lived a life full of pure grace, love and compassion for others. Her gift to those that were close to her was her God given gift to cause laughter and lightheartedness even in difficult situations. We will forever cherish our fond and loving memories of her enjoying her life to the fullest and helping others to do the same.
