Ms. Cheryl Marie Hines was born in Reidsville, North Carolina on December 17, 1953 to the late Herman and Thelma Weaver Hines. She
was educated in the public schools of Reidsville: Franklin Street Elementary, Reidsville Junior and Reidsville Senior High Schools. She furthered her education at Mars Hill College, Mars Hill, NC, where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Health and Physical Education and was a member of Pi Sigma Phi Service Fraternity. She later received her Teaching Certification in Biology and Earth Science from North Carolina A. & T. State University, Greensboro, NC.
For 38 ½ years, her life was filled with teaching, coaching and caring for student athletes who affectionately called her "Mama Hines." She began her career as a Teacher and Softball Coach at Hoke County High School in 1976 where she also served as the Athletic Trainer/First Responder. In 1992, she moved back home and began her journey as a Teacher and Softball Coach at Reidsville Senior High School. Along with Teaching and Coaching, she was the Athletic Trainer/First Responder for the Reidsville Senior High Athletic Department, where she was dedicated to the job and loved her athletes, up until her retirement in 2016. Even after retirement, she continued to serve the RSH Football Team until 2021 when her health declined.
She was a lifelong member of Zion Baptist Church where she served faithfully in many capacities until she could no longer do so. During her time at Zion, she was a member of the Sunday School; Baptist Training Union; the Music Ministry (Senior, Spiritual and Mass Choirs); Hospitality and Kitchen Committees; and the Nurses Aid Ministry.
In 1988, the love of her life was born – Keba Aisha. Her motherly duties commenced, as she supported Keba in dance, sports and girl scouting. In 2013, Cheryl became a grandmother, and was lovingly known as "G-Ma" by her graddaughter KeMarie. Early on, she was able to balance being "Mom" and "G-Ma" while on the sidelines of the football field, with Keba and KeMarie close by her side. She also shared her love and continued spoiling her "special babies" as well as her
two "fur babies" – Oreo (cat) and CoCo (dog), who she loved dearly.
In her free time, Cheryl was found taking KeMarie to Walmart and Food Lion and/or eating Klondike Bars, which they both loved; one could also find her trying out different restaurants with Keba and KeMarie. Cheryl was skillful in the kitchen and was often asked to cook cabbage and sweet potato pies for various occasions. Other favorite past-times include watching Judge Judy, game shows (The Price is Right and Family Feud), and ALL Sports (especially Football); working crossword and word search puzzles; and reading books by her favorite author, Danielle Steele.
In addition to her parents, Cheryl was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Roosevelt and Helen Weaver; and paternal grandparents, Wesley and Lucy Hines.
Survivors include: her loving daughter, Keba Aisha Hines of Reidsville, NC; her granddaughter, KeMarie Simone Herbin of Reidsville, NC; brother, Minister Eric Wesley Hines (Wanda) of Greensboro, NC; bonus daughters, Melvon Kwasikpui of Rocky Mount, NC and Yolanda Blackwell of Reidsville, NC; best friend, Gigetta "Dee Dee" Slade Garvin of Reidsville, NC; nieces, Kamilah Pleasants of Greensboro, NC, Ayana Smith of Atlanta, GA, Jetaunn Jeanette and Kamaria Moody, both of Greensboro, NC; nephew, Christian Greenfield of Greensboro, NC; aunts, Helen Rose (Mickey)of Falls Church, VA, Arnetta Weaver (Richard) of Spring Lake, NC, Lillian Studamire of Cleveland, OH, Gloria Seaton of Melbourne, FL, and Julia Harris of Highland Park, MI; special babies: Raiden Levi Bradford; Kinsley Harris; King Kwasikpui; Raiyah Harris; Emperor Kwasikpui; Koa Harris; and Basil Harris, III; and a host of other relatives and friends.
