On February 2, 2024 at 11:55 AM Charlotte Harrison Wilson made her earthly departure to her new heavenly home. Charlotte was the daughter of Elijah and Susie Harrison, she was born February 11, 1936 in Reidsville, North Carolina.
As a native and resident of Rockingham County, North Carolina all of her life, she attended the Booker T. Washington High School and was a graduate of the Class of 1954.
Charlotte was married to the love of her life, the late John D. Wilson for over 40 years. Charlotte was employed and retired from Sylvania Company aftfter many years of service, she also kept children in her home for many years. Charlotte's being raised in a Christian home later resulted in her accepting the Lord as her personal Savior. She joined the Elm Grove Baptist Church and her life was never the same anymore.
Serving in many capacities at the church, Charlotte attended Sunday School and Bible Study and loved to sing, and singing she did! She sang in the Jr. Choir as a young girl until she joined the Elm Grove Gospel Choir. As a singer Charlotte later became known as "Baby Shirley" for her ability to sing like Evangelist Shirley Ceaser.
Charlotte was known for singing songs such as "Stop By," "Sweeping Through The City," and her favorite song, "Jesus Oh Jesus How I Love Calling Your Name." Now anyone who knew anything about Charlotte if you gave her half the chance she would in fact take your song away and sing it, and she was known also for making up words and rewriting the song to make it her.
Charlotte's ministry was not just limited to singing she also served as the Kitchen Committee Chairperson for over 40 years. Charlotte was a jokester and loved to have fun and many days of fun was had in the kitchen at the church where we will never forget all the precious memories that were made. She loved working in the kitchen, her specialty was potato salad, 30 day cake, and dressing. Charlotte didn't believe in wasting food and no one could get more slices out of a cake like she could. She could take one cake and feed 10,000. One of her favorite sayings was, "In know what I'm doing" and she really did! And when she did it, it was always done in a spirit of "EXCELLENCE"! Charlotte was the Chef Extraordinaire at the Milestone Learning Center until her health declined, the children miss Ms. Wilson the baby spoiler as they called her and we called her that too!
She is preceded in death by her parents Elijah and Susie Harrison; husband, John D. Wilson; daughter, Lady Jacqueline W. Florence; sisters, Annie Mason, Gracie H. Graves, and Minister Susie Nicholson; brothers, June Harrison, Willie Harrison, Hildred Harrison, and Aaron Harrison.
