Charlene Modelle Adams Mims was born May 31, 1954 in Eden, NC to the late Willie Lee Adams and Hattie Griffin Adams. She was a faithful, life-long member of Bold Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Ruffin, NC. She loved singing with several choirs and served in various administrative capacities until her health began to decline.
She attended Lincoln School and Ruffin High School, graduating in 1972. Later, she enrolled at Rockingham County Community College. She was employed at American Tobacco Company in Reidsville, NC for many years and later retired from P. Lorillard Tobacco Company in Greensboro, NC.
Modelle dearly loved children and adopted many, many children, everywhere she went. She never met a stranger and was never at a loss for words. One of her favorite past times was watching detective shows and mysteries during her retirement. She was also an avid online shopper, buying gifts for family, friends and co-workers. She routinely sent holiday, get-well, sympathy and birthday cards to everyone and was deeply concerned about every birth and death of anyone close to her.
Modelle absolutely adored her grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to talk about their accomplishments, big or small. Her immediate and extended families were the most important thing to her.
In addition to her parents, Modelle is preceded in death by her husband, Earl Mims and her brother, Wayne Lee Adams.
Those left to cherish precious memories are: her son, Amon Muhammad (Anita) and grandchildren, Fatimah and Rukayyah Muhammad, all of Reidsville, NC; brother, Ronald Edward Adams (Vickie) of Tampa, FL; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
Ashton and Yolanda McLaurin and the staff of the McLaurin Funeral Home are serving the family. C ovid-19 precautions will be followed with social distancing, masks and sanitizing required.
