REIDSVILLE, NC - Mrs. Charlene Allen Blackwell, age 74, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at Annie Penn Hospital.
A viewing will begin on Sunday, June 14, 2026 from 12 until 7 p.m. at McLaurin-Harris Funeral Home, 721 East Morehead Street, Reidsville, NC.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 15, 2026 at 12 p.m. from the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, 420 Mizpah Church Road, Reidsville, NC. Pastor Gregory H. Lee will officiate and Reverend Dr. Samuel Moore, Jr., will serve as eulogist.
The interment will follow in the Wesley Chapel UMC Cemetery.
Charlene Blackwell, 74, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2026, at Annie Penn Hospital. She was born on December 3, 1951, to the late James Scott and Louise Allen.
After graduating from Reidsville Senior High School, Charlene began her working career at Burlington Industries, where she worked for many years. Later, she joined Rockingham County Schools, serving faithfully as a bus driver and cafeteria employee for thirteen years until her retirement.
At an early age, Charlene united with Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. She remained a faithful and dedicated member for as long as her health allowed. Throughout the years, she served in numerous capacities, including Gospel Choir member, United Methodist Women member, Usher, and Advisor to the Junior Ushers. Even during her illness, Charlene pressed her way to worship whenever possible and remained grateful to God for sustaining her day by day.
Charlene had a special love for working with youth in both the church and the community. She was truly a people person who never met a stranger. Her warm spirit, kindness, and genuine love for others drew many friends into her life. She was blessed with a host of caring and devoted friends who faithfully stood by her side throughout the years.
In her leisure time, Charlene enjoyed watching western movies, gardening, baking, and decorating for the holidays. Her selflessness, generosity, and loving spirit will be cherished and remembered forever by all who knew her.
Charlene was preceded in death by her brother James Allen.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories her devoted husband and caregiver Eugene Blackwell; her son, Tony Allen of Upstate New York; her brother Archie Allen (Allene Allen) of Reidsville, North Carolina; her sister Janie Mangum (McRae Mangum) of Caswell County, North Carolina; her aunts, Peggy Totten of Hampton, Virginia, and Betty Totten of Washington, D.C.; sisters-in-law, Gennie Mae Winchester, Maggie Watkins and Mable Gunter (Larry Gunter); brother-in-law, John Williamson (Ruth Williamson); along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.
