Rev. Carroll E. Rucker passed on Sunday, September 15, 2019 at Hospice Home of Rockingham County. Funeral services will be 12:00 Noon, Saturday, September 21, 2019 at Piedmont District Convention of the Christian Church, Highway 87, Reidsville, NC with a visitation 11:30 am prior to the service and burial in Roselawn Memorial Garden.
Public viewing will be Friday 12:00 P.M. - 7:00 P.M. at McLaurin Funeral Home.
Rev. Carroll Rucker was born January 26, 1927 in Lynchburg, Virginia. He is the son of late Rachel Tucker. Rev. Rucker attended Dunbar High School in Campbell County, Virginia. In 1944, he enlisted in the United States Army. While in the Army, he received decorations and citations including the Army of Occupation Medal and World War II Victory Medal. After being discharged from the Army, he moved to Alexandria, VA., where he met and married his wife Garnett Martin.
In 1950, Rev. Rucker and his wife moved to her hometown, Reidsville, North Carolina. In 1951, Rev. Rucker joined Little Bethlehem Christian Church and became a Bible School Teacher. Later, he was ordained as a Deacon, served as church treasurer and trustee. He was called to carry God's word in 1981 and received his license to preach during the Centennial 100 year Celebration of the Piedmont District Tri-State Convention, Christian Churches (Disciples of Christ) at First Christian Church (Disciples Of Christ) Concord, N.C. in 1982. He served as Pastor of Iron Belt Christian Church (1982-1998). Later, he served as Interim Pastor of Mt. Olive #1 and was later voted in as their Pastor (1998-2017). Faithful in his service to the Piedmont District Convention, he served as a delegate, Coordinator of the 5 th Sunday Rally, and past member and President of the Minister's Fellowship.
After retiring from Fieldcrest Mills, Karastan Division, Eden, North Carolina, he joined the team at New Laundry, Reidsville, NC. He also joined the Masonic Temple, Lone Star Lodge #33 in Reidsville, N.C. in 1954.
In addition to mother and his wife, Garnett, he was preceded in death by son, Mark Anthony Rucker, and brothers, Douglas and William Rucker Alexandria, Va.,
Left to cherish his memories are: grandchildren, Marcus Rucker, Amber Dalton and Brian Rucker; granddaughter, Zoe Fargis; niece/daughter Sharon Cain, Winston Salem, NC; a dear family friend, Elaine Webb, Alexandria, VA: and an abundance of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
