Obituary

REIDSVILLE - Mr. Brian Carnell Scales, age 66, departed this earthly home on Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at Moses Cone Hospital.

Public viewing will begin on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 from 12 until 8 p.m. at McLaurin-Harris Funeral Home, 721 East Morehead Street, Reidsville, NC.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at 3 p.m. at Jerusalem United Holy Church, 633 Prince-Williams Street, Reidsville, NC. The family visitation will begin at 2:30 p.m.

Interment will follow in Greenview Cemetery, Reidsville, NC.

Brian Carnell Scales was born on May 9, 1958 in Reidsville NC.

Carnell, as he was known by many, had an infectious smile, amazing love for life, his family and friends. He will be greatly missed but he will live in our memories and hearts forever.

Carnell lived in Reidsville all his life. At age 11, he joined Jerusalem UHC on May 3, 1969. He attended the Reidsville City Schools where he was a graduate of the class of 1976. He later matriculated at Shaw University, Raleigh, NC for 2 years. His employment consisted of American Tobacco Company, a retiree of Lorillard Tobacco Company ni Greensboro, NC and many years with McLaurin Funeral Home. He was a former member of the Shriner's Club, Fellowes Club and Lone Star Lodge#33.

Carnell was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Carter; mother, Alfatine Scales-Smith; stepfather, Bobby Smith; great aunt, Savannah Morgan.

He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and devoted wife of 44 years, Marilyne Maxine Scales; daughter, Kameshia Scales (Brad) of Reidsville, NC; son, Bryant Scales (Phoebe) of Savannah, GA; siblings, Ronnie Smith, Bronx, NY, Keisha Mack (Whittaker) of Township Washington, NJ, Lisa Carter Brown of Reidsville, NC, and Sliva Taylor (Rodney) of Springfield, VA; three grandchildren, Mario, Kemonni and Jaida; aunts, Deborah Scales and Mable Burrell of Monroe, NC; uncles, Anthony Scales (Linda) of Brown Summit, NC; Robert Gene Scales (Mary) of San Diego, CA; brother in-laws, Jasper Thomas (Angie) of Reidsville, NC; Raeford Thomas of Reidsville, NC; Jeffery Thomas of Hampton, VA; Keith Thomas (Lashawn) of Atlanta, GA; William Thomas (Phyllis) of South Carolina, special cousins, Vickie Williamson, Pamela Redd (Stanley) and Barbara Jean Hooper (Tommie); special friends, Mabel Jones, Regina Dillard, Foster Tracy (Mattie) and Roland Alston; a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
