Obituary

Mrs. Betty Doris Reid passed peacefully on Thursday, October 6, 2022 at Pelican Health in Reidsville, North Carolina.  Funeral services will be held held on Sunday, October 16, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Mizpah Church Road, Reidsville, NC with family visitation one half hour prior to the service and burial to follow in the church cemetery.  Public viewing will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2022 from 11 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. at McLaurin Memorial Chapel.

Betty Doris Slade Reid was born on November 20,1937 to the late John Willie Slade and Sara Elizabeth Moore in Guilford County. Doris moved to Rockingham County at an early age and attended the local public schools.  She moved to New York in 1957 and continued her education at Browne's Business School and was employed at Double Day Book Company for 20 years.

Doris moved back to Reidsville in 1990 to care for her mother.  She was a faithful member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and was a loving mother, sister, aunt, and friend.    She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Constance Jones, Ann Long and Glenna Johnson; brothers, Peter Slade and Godfrey Slade; son Gregory Slade; and grandson, Kenneth Reid, Jr.

Those left to cherish precious memories are:  her two sons, Anthony Slade and Kenneth Reid both of New York; four grandsons, Michael Robertson, Tyrone Robertson and Gregory Slade, all of Reidsville, NC and Tony Slade, Jr. of New York; nieces, Conswaylo Galloway of Greensboro, NC, LaVerne Adams, Joan Manns (Reginald), Vivian Lindsey (Jimmy) and Carol Jones, all of Reidsville, NC; nephews, Theron Slade (Marie), and Quinton Slade, all of Reidsville, NC and Minister Thomas Johnson (Doretha) of Brighton, TN; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Ashton and Yolanda McLaurin and the staff of the McLaurin Funeral Home are serving the family.   Covid-19 precautions will be followed with social distancing, masks and sanitizing required.
