Mrs. Bessie F. Sheff, age 92, formerly of Caswell County, NC passed away Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Brooklyn Hospital Center.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 17, 2023 at 1 p.m. at New Ephesus Missionary Baptist Church, 8939 US Highway 158 W, Ruffin, NC. The family visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. Pastor E. Lamar Boykin will deliver the words of comfort.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Public viewing will begin on Friday, June 16, 2023 from 12 until 7 p.m. at McLaurin-Harris Funeral Home.

Bessie was born on January 27, 1931 to Rosabell Stadler Totten. She moved to Brooklyn, New York at age 16 and lived there for the remainder of her life.

In addition to spending time with loved ones, Bessie enjoyed cooking, dominoes, and card games. Known for her grit and strength, she put family first and never hesitated to lend a helping hand. She always had an encouraging word for all who knew her.

Bessie was preceded in death by her parents, her son, Robert Sheff, and 14 siblings.

She leaves to cherish her memory: son, Kevin Totten (Yvette) of Pennsylvania; grandsons, Dontae Dixon of North Carolina, Ajayne Totten of New York; granddaughters, Latonya Spann of South Carolina, Ayanna Lawrence (Theodore) of New York; five great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
