Mrs. Annie Mae Hamlin Williams was born in Rockingham County on February 3, 1925 to the late Nancy Aikens Hamlin and Peter Hamlin. After a life of sharing and caring, she peacefully made her transition into life eternal on Tuesday evening, February 21, 2012 with her daughter by her side.
Receiving her education in Rockingham County Public Schools, Annie attended Booker T. Washington High School. She worked in several different fields during her lifetime: seasonal work at Penn Factory, the former American Tobacco Factory, and G.T.E. Sylvania, until closing.
"Mrs. Annie," of which she was affectionately called, grew up in the Jones Chapel Community, "Nubbie Ridge." Thereby, at an early age she joined Jones chapel Baptist Church. After marriage, in her adult years, she became a member at First Baptist Church along with her husband and daughter.
As a soul filled with energy, unselfishness, she gave of her time serving the Lord as a faithful member of First Baptist Church until health no longer permitted. Mrs. Annie worked diligently as Treasurer of Mission Group IV, member of the Sunday School, Senior Usher Board, Culinary Committee, and Ladies Auxiliary American Legion Post #199. She loved preparing food for family, especially Sunday dinners. Canning and freezing food from her husband and brother-in-law's gardens and sharing with family and friends throughout Reidsville city was an additional talent.
Preceding her in death are: husband, George L. Williams, Mother and Father, five Simpson brothers, one Simpson sister, one Hamlin brother and one Hamlin sister.
Her sweetness, humbleness, commitment, morals, and standards will continue to bless her family: a daughter and best friend, Linda Faye Williams Bass – of which shared a close, special bonding relationship, and loving son-in-law, Sterling C. Bass of Pelham, NC: son, Morris Hamlin, Sr., and daughter-in-law, Garnell Hamlin, of Upper Marlboro, MD: sister, Violet McLaughlin, Reidsville, NC; Frances Macklin, Danville, VA; brother-in-laws, Sandy and Lawrence Williams, Reidsville, NC, Tommy Williams, Myrtle Beach, SC; granddaughter, Terry M.
