PELHAM, NC - Mrs. Annie Mae Abbott Hairston, age 92, passed away Friday, February 13, 2026 at Piney Forest Health & Rehabilitation Center in Danville, VA.
Public viewing will begin on Friday, February 27, 2026 from 12 until 6 p.m. at McLaurin-Harris Funeral Home, 721 East Morehead Street, Reidsville, NC.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 3 p.m. from the Bluestone Missionary Baptist Church, 9892 NC-700, Pelham, NC. Dr. Karen Willis will officiate and Reverend John Doe, eulogist.
The committal and interment will follow in the Bluestone Baptist Church Cemetery, Pelham, NC.
Annie Mae Abbott Hairston departed this life to be with the Lord on February 13, 2026 at Piney Forest Rehabilitation Center in Danville, Virginia.
She was born on November 7, 1933, in Rockingham County, North Carolina, to the late Alexander Abbott and Annie Pearl Broadnax Abbott. She later relocated to Hollis, Queens, New York.
Annie Mae married Jake Willis Hairston on Febraury 1, 1957, in Long Beach, New York. He preceded her in death in 1987. Annie Mae was a faithful member of Bluestone Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, spending time with her family, and working word search puzzles. She will be remembered for her loving spirit and devotion to those she held dear.
She attended Caswell County Training School in Yanceyville, North Carolina. She was employed for many years by the Baily Family in Long Beach, New York.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Alexander and Annie Pearl Broadnax Abbott; her sister, Pauline Noble; and her brothers, Ed, Sammy, James, Clarence, Percy, Henry, Harry and Herbert Abbott.
She leaves to cherish her memory her two loving daughters, Venessa Courts and Annie R. Hairston (DeeDee) of Los Angeles, California; one brother, George Abbott (Catherine) of Pelham, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Alicia Courts and James Willis Barnes of Los Angeles, California; and two great-granddaughters, Mia and Zoe Sadler of Los Angeles, California.
She is also survived by two special nieces, Renee Abbott of Ruffin, North Carolina, and Debra Adams of Pelham, North Carolina; two special nephews, Roger Noble (Lena) of Reidsville, North Carolina and Preston Lee Abbott of Pelham, North Carolina; one goddaugther, LaToya Graham of Rex, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
