Our beloved father, son, brother and friend was born on April 6, 1959 in Rockingham County, North Carolina to Elizabeth Harrison and the late Wylie Joe Harrison.  He attended the local public schools and was a 1976 graduate of Reidsville Senior High school.

His faith and love of God and Country were manifested when he chose to join the United States Navy.  Being a conscientious person, he labored as a Damage Control Technician, Fire Fighter Technician, Communications Technician, Ship Defense, Corrosion Control Supervisor, Armament Supervisor, Maintenance Technician Leader, Aviation Management Supervisor and Florescent Penetrant Technician.  His awards, medals and badges include:  4 th Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Award, 2 nd Navy Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and a Battle "E" Ribbon.  He served on the USS Kearsarge (LHD-3) and the USS Akron 176.  Alvis retired honorably from the United States Navy after serving twenty years and earning the rank of E-10 Peggy Officer First Class.  He then turned his attention to the United States Postal Services as a Mail Carrier for another twenty years, retiring on April 30, 2019.

Alvis enjoyed spending his leisure time for relaxation and meditation at his townhome in Virginia Beach, VA, as well as reading and traveling.  He was also a sports enthusiast and loved spending money.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one brother, Ronnie Harrison.
