Mr. Allen Alvis Brown passed on December 27, 2022 at Annie Penn Memorial Hospital in Reidsville, North Carolina. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Elm Grove Baptist Church, U.S. Business 29, Reidsville, NC with family visitation one half hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Trinity Baptist Church Cemetery, Highway 150 West, Reidsville, NC. Public visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2022 from 2:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the McLaurin Memorial Chapel, 721 E. Morehead Street, Reidsville, NC.
Allen Brown was born on April 5, 1946 in Reidsville, North Carolina to the late James Wesley Brown, Sr. and Mary Jane Johnson Brown and was a member of Elm Grove Baptist Church. He retired from the U.S. Army after 16 years of service. Later he became employed at the American Tobacco Company and retired after 10 years of service. An avid Carolina Panthers fan, he also enjoyed reading the Bible and being a loving father and grandfather to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 40 years, Dorothy Hughes Brown; his brothers, Nathaniel Brown and James Wesley Brown, Jr.; and his sisters, Frances Bradley and Mary Lamberth.
He leaves to cherish precious memories and was the proud father of Carol Dawn Poteat of Reidsville, NC, Melissa Mitchell (James) of Eden, NC, Jhandrel Brown of Reidsville, NC, Alecia Burnette (Rodney) of Burlington, NC and Allen Turner of Reidsville, NC; 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
"Al" is also survived by his five sisters, Irene Harris of Detroit, MI, Bertha King of Detroit, MI, Linda Samuel of Newington, CT, Jacqueline Stephens (James) of Reidsville, NC and Johnsie Robertson (Eliot) of Snellsville, GA; two brothers, Warren Brown of New York and John Lewis Brown (Rose) of Florida; three sisters-in-law, Patricia Clark, Carolyn Bland and Martha Brown; brothers-in-law, Lacy Hughes (Lois) and Russel McLaughlin (Janice); special cousin, Howard Coates; special God-son, Michael (Blake) Turner; and a host of nieces, nephews, many cousins and dear friends.
Ashton and Yolanda McLaurin and the staff of the McLaurin Funeral Home are serving the family. Covid-19 precautions will be followed with social distancing, masks and sanitizing required.
