Alberta Lee Cummings, a native of Rockingham County, North Carolina, was born on August 12, 1936 to the late Estelle Cummings and Emmitt Brown. She passed peacefully at her home.
She was educated in the public schools of Rockingham County, graduating from Booker T. Washington High School in 1955. An excellent cook and seamstress, she was also employed at Sears Roebuck and Company for more than 35 years, until they closed.
In February of 1975, she joined the New Light Missionary Baptist Church in Greensboro, North Carolina, where she served as a faithful member until her health declined. She also served on the Usher Board.
Alberta was a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, cousin and friend. Her devotion and love for her family was evident in her beautiful smile and soft-spoken kindness. And, everyone who knew her understood the bond and undying love she had for her two sons. Her cousin Gladys also remembers that because they always went everywhere together, most folks thought they were sisters, rather than cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased in death by her two sons, Barron E. Cummings and Clinton Keith Cummings.
She leaves to cherish precious memories: grandchildren, (special granddaughter) Darcia Dalton (Anthony), of Stoneville, NC, Rodrick Williamson (Sheila), of McLeansville, NC, Marcus Rankin (Samara), of Greensboro, NC, Kamilla Williamson-Lowe (Anthony), of Eden, NC, Stephanie Hairston, of Macon, GA, and Antria Foote, of Eden, NC; three bonus grandchildren, Rashonda, April and Chaunte', fifteen great-grandchildren, special great-grandson, Dajshon Murphy; two very special cousins, Gladys Price and Gina Price Mills (Vernon), all of Reidsville, NC; god-child, Barbara Millner, of Whitsett, NC; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
McLaurin Funeral Home is serving the family.
