Albert Edward
Bell
Jul 1, 1937 — Oct 23, 2019
Albert "Boots" Bell died peacefully in Hospice of Rockingham County on October 23, 2019 at the age of 82. A funeral is scheduled for Sunday October 27, 2019 at 3:00 at Wesley Chapel in Reidsville with the viewing beginning at 2:30. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of Albert "Boots" Bell.
Albert "Boots" Bell was born on July 1, 1937 to the late Roy and Rosa Wright Bell in Rockingham County, North Carolina. He received his education in the public schools of Rockingham County, and during his high school years he was a member of a Booker T. Washington High School's baseball team that was awarded a state championship award.
On April 21, 1962, he was united in holy matrimony to Ms. Mildred Watlington. Their marriage blessed them with four wonderful, hardworking children. He was employed at P. Lorillard Tobacco Company for thirty-nine years. However, in his leisure, he spent much of his time on a baseball field. From a young age, Boots was a very avid baseball player. In his younger years, he was a pitcher, and after his playing days were over, he began coaching a girls' softball team. From there he went on to umpire games for about 30 years. In addition to baseball, he also spent a lot of time at The Fellows Club of Reidsville where he was a member for approximately 40 years.
As a friend of the community, his favorite saying was "I'll see what I can do". There was never anything that you could ask for, that Boots wouldn't try to help you out with. He developed many friendships that were very valuable to him. Family was also very important to him and family was always something that would bring a smile to his face, even in his sicker days.
In addition to his parents, he was proceeded in death by his sisters: Marian Maynard, Louise Henderson, Sadie Herbin, Jeanette McAdoo and Ruth Settle; brothers: Waddell, William, George, Roland, Malcom, and Josephus Bell.
With hearts grateful for his life and saddened by his passing, he leaves to cherish his love and memories: wife: Mildred W. Bell; daughters: Clintonia Wallace and Tracy (Antonio) Thompson; sons: Rodney Bell and Jason Bell, six grandchildren, two great grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Mattie Bell, Geraldine Carson, Virginia Watlington and Jane (Franklin) Bass; an abundance of nieces and nephews; and other relatives and dear friends.
McLaurin Funeral Home is serving the family.
