Mrs. Adline Sommers Stackhouse, died on Saturday, March 28, 2015.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Jones Chapel Baptist Church with a visitation 1:30-2:00 P.M. prior to the service. There will be a wake Friday, April 3, 2015 at 6:30-7:00 P.M. at McLaurin Funeral Home Memorial Chapel.
Mrs. Adline Lucille Sommers Stackhouse was daughter of the late Adeline Lucille Davis Sommers and Ira Pete Sommers. She was born on June 22, 1938 in Princeton Borough, Princeton New Jersey. Following a brief period of illness she departed this life and entered into Glory at home in North Carolina surrounded by family.
Adline grew up in New Jersey and attended school there and was a graduate of Trenton Central High School. Following graduation she studied Nursing at Mercer County Community College in Mercer County New Jersey. Adline married the late Weldon L. Stackhouse in Paris, France in 1956. She faithfully supported her husband in military life and as such she traveled the world and saw many sights. After a time, Adline and her husband settled in Trenton New Jersey, where they resided for 25 years. In order to support her family while her husband was deployed overseas in Asia, Adline took on employment at the Mercer County Geriatric Center. She worked there for several years, first as a Certified Nurses' Assistant before advancing to Medical Ward Clerk. She retained this position until her retirement in 1987. After retirement, Adline relocated to Reidsville North Carolina in 1995, along with several members of her family.
Adline loved the Lord and worked out her soul's salvation as a member of Jones Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. She was very active and faithfully served in many capacities. Adline sang with the Senior Choir, and the Combined Choir. She utilized her skills in nursing on the Nurses Board. Adline enjoyed cooking and put her talents to use as a member of the Kitchen Helps Ministry. In addition, she was involved in the Senior Missionaries and served as the Vice President and then the President until her death. Adline also received the distinguished honor of Jones Chapel Missionary Baptist Church's Woman of the Year for 2014.
Adline greatly enjoyed cooking, reading, and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed serving others and giving a helping hand whenever needed.
Adline was preceded in death by her husband Weldon Lee Stackhouse, both of her parents, and in-laws John L. and Annie O. Stackhouse, and siblings Calvin Sommers, Hazel Thomas, and Florence Brown.
She is survived by her children: Diann Hall(Doug Hall, Jr.), Bashirah Halim(Tahmullah Halim), Jeffery Stackhouse(Doris Stackhouse), and Darleen Byrd(Stephen Byrd) Siblings: Ira Sommers, Ann Donaldson, Samuel Sommers, Benjamin Sommers, Edward Sommers, and Mary Jane Jackson(Rudolph) Grandchildren: Nafisah Halim-Williams(Mike), Hydiah Halim, Kareem Halim, Paul Smith Stackhouse, Taesha Stackhouse, Byron Liverman, NaQuan Williams, Samiah Ahmad, Aziza Carter(Sherman), and Yassir Ahmad. Great-grandchildren: Khalil Lawson, Shaqeel Lawson, Aaliyah McIntosh, Anisah Crews, Jordan Whitfield, Brittany Stackhouse, and Adrian McFadden. One great great grandchild: Jeremiah Stackhouse; and a host of neices,nephews,cousins and special friends.
